Brittany Bravo is a
director and photographer
from Los Angeles, CA.
Her video and photographic work beautifully reflects her love for her community by capturing her sitters through a lens of power and tenderness. Brittany does not consider herself a documentarian of Chicano culture, but rather a world-builder, where she takes inspiration from traditions and expands upon them with imagination.
She oftentimes utilizes braids as a metaphor for legacy and connection. Such as her piece, Intergenerational Joy, which envisions a matriarchy that has passed down love and joy from generation to generation. In her project, El Poder De Las Trenzas, braids symbolize power and strength.
Centering craftsmanship is key to building the worlds of imagination and love she creates within. Brittany frequently creates out of her studio in Los Angeles, where she hand paints her own backdrops.
When she is not behind the lens, Brittany indulges in her love of thrifting, collects photo books, and daydreams about her next project.
